FOUNDED IN 1986 by JC Carlson,
the USS Wainwright Veterans Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit association of men who served aboard any of the three USS Wainwright ships. This web site is dedicated to those sailors.
Our association exists to keep alive the memory of all vessels named Wainwright.
We need everyone’s assistance, via membership and dues payments, to achieve that goal by supporting our museum trailer as well as participation in regional veterans’ recognition events and attending the bi-annual reunions.
New Hull Call to Action
Our Call to Action to obtain a new ship has been underway now since February 19, 2024 and we need to start the next phase. During the first phase the membership was asked to send letters to their congressional representation. During this phase 19 members sent 53 confirmed letters to their congressional members. One of the letters that was sent did receive a response. Congressman Andy Kim of New Jersey advised us that we needed to contact the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) as they are responsible for making ship naming recommendations to the Secretary of the Navy.
I have created 2 letters to send to both the Director and Deputy Director of the NHHC. These letters are similar to the representative letters that I created. Use the following directions to fill out these letters.

- Enter you years onboard on the second page where the years 1966 and 1993 appear
- Print and sign the letter
- Mail to the address in the letter.

2025 Reunion Dayton OH
The 2025 Wainwright Veterans Association Reunion will be at the Holiday Inn Dayton/Fairborn I-675 from September 22, 2025 to September 26, 2025. The room rate per night for the reunion is $152 / $171.38 with taxes. This rate includes breakfast for everyone in the room. This rate is good for 3 days prior and 3 days post reunion. Below are photos of the accommodations available at the hotel. Left to right they are a King Suite, King Room and standard Double.

By calling the reservations department at 877-390-5931 and identify yourself as a member of the USS Wainwright Veterans Association to the reservationist that you are taling to to receive our group rate and to be counted in our room block.
Our cutoff date for reservations without paying the late registration fee is Friday August 22,2025. After this date a late fee of $20 will need to be paid. After September 5, 2025 no reservations will be accepted. We need to set final numbers for the hotel on this date.
This year we are providing 2 methods of paying your registration for the reunion one is the usual hardcopy mail in registration form and the other is an online form that you can pay for your registration using PayPal.
